This Time is Different by Mae Wood

I love a good second chance love book and I love one that shows that love past forty can be sexy. Thomas is a silver fox and I have to say the cover pulled me in. This man on the cover is f@#$##* hot. Oh, I want a silver fox like that!

The book is about a divorcee who is not really looking for love when a man in his early fifties happens to get hit in the face with a baseball bat and under the drugs and care of the divorcee dentist; he is a goner. He doesn’t remember this of course but when he goes back to be seen, he realizes he was right. This woman is who he wants.

Between her son and his children and the fact that Thomas is a widow-makes for an interesting story. Amy, who became an orthodontist to follow in her father’s footsteps, left a loveless marriage and is gun shy about starting another one.

Thomas is a successful hospital administer who hasn’t dated much. His life has not been the same since losing his wife. Finding Amy gives him purpose. However, she makes is clear from the beginning she doesn’t need a man plus her son is not really happy with her choice.

Things I loved:

The cover pulls you in and adds to the wonderful writing of Mae Wood. The saying, “you can judge a book by its cover” does not apply in romance books. I mean, this cover is what made me pick up the book!

Amy is a mom first and foremost but she doesn’t allow her son’s little tantrums to stop her happiness.

Thomas follows his heart and though he gives his children space and time to come to grips with the idea of him seeing someone new, he too, like Amy gives into his own desires.

All in all, I would give this book 4.5 starts and tell those that love a second chance romance, not to miss out on this gem!

Doll Face

By Sadie Grubor

What can I say about this book-probably not enough! First, let me say this book was provided for me for an honest review and I honestly fell in love with both this book and author from the beginning sentence. Although the book was excellent, I have to say the cover pulled me in to seek out the author for an arc in the first place.

Mei-the main character is wow-just wow! First off, let me say it was a mafia/dark romance. Saint, the male lead of this story, is so many things. He is mysterious, deep, handsome, controlling and f***ing scary! He sees Mei and feels a connection with her right away. Saint is one of the darkest characters I have ever read. (Normally dark men are ***holes) I mean, don’t get me wrong, Saint has his issue but it works for this story and his one goal in life is protect Mei.

The story takes the most twists and turns and if it were anyone else, I may be lost but Ms. Grubor does a wonderful job to keep the readers engaged throughout it all! Anyway, Sadie Grubor has won my heart as one of her avid fans! I can’t wait to read more!

Prelude by Auden Dar

Auden Dar Prelude Full Wrap Cover-2Every once in a while you are given a book that makes you want to step onto the pages and take over the lead character’s life and Lina is that character for me! Sure, she has had her share of crap dealt to her but the author hits on human life because everyone deals with hurt and loss.

So, you are asking what this story is about-well- let me tell you! This is a wonderful story of a woman who whose mind knows what is good for her but her heart wants something else. The idea of her dreaming about another man as she sleeps next to her fiance’ is one of pure torture for Lina.

The author is great at bringing this book to a slow burn as the reader wonders if Julian will ever be part of Lina’s life. But it is apparent to the readers that Julian does care deeply for Lina.

There are reasons I gave this five stars. First, it was written well and I loved the way Ms. Dar paints the canvas of the book so vividly you feel you are in California and New York. I love books that have two settings and this book delivered. I have been to New York once and Southern LA never and I feel I can almost taste the air.

The characters have depth to them as do the minor characters that support them. Patty and Roger are Lina’s best friends and they bring humor to the pages; plus the way they protect Lina is absolutely beautiful!

I also like that the author made Lina believable. How many people do we know (ourselves included) that  get in the cycle of everyday life and may feel stuck at one time or two in our lives! That is the premise of Lina-wanting what she can’t have.

This book will captivate you until the very end and then you will be asking for her January release to come sooner than Santa Claus. Do yourself a favor and get this copy today!

The Last Breath

The Last Breath EBook-3

This is my third book called The Last Breath about a woman really has gotten beat up metaphorically in life. I wrote this book with raw emotion as I watched my husband fight against the beast we know as cancer and he won!

I had no idea what I was doing when I started. I had names, an idea and a computer. It took me six months to pen down Julia’s entire story. At the time, it was going to be only from the main character’s point of view but as the characters became more real in my mind, I knew I had to share their journey, too.

Honestly, it was watching my parents along with my husband’s parents and friends that grieved for us that made me realize that cancer and the beast of the disease it is, had a place in all our lives in the moment we were living.

I wanted to catch a raw and real look at what a family goes through when they live with the thought that the disease may not go away. We were lucky, my husband has been in remission for two years. It’s funny, in his case, when we would tell people he had Melanoma, the response was, “Oh, they can just cut it out.” I quickly became ensconced into the world of cancer.

When asked why I wrote such a sad story, I think about life in general and how vicious it truly is. Hurt is all around us, but it was my hope to showcase a family that could rise above all the crap and work for the common good. Julia brought many people together and healed many relationships, just by being herself and so in that way, her life mattered and it mattered to those around her.

On a personal note, six months after my husband finished chemo, my mother succumbed to a quick and brutal battle with cancer and was gone in six weeks. For that reason, I will always dedicate any book I write to my mother, Robbie.

It was then I started editing the book. I never thought it was written well enough to be published. In all honesty, it wasn’t written well at all considering it was the first book I wrote. However, I’ve been through this book so many times, making changes, trying to make it smoother. I felt it was important to get the message out for everyone who has lost a loved one due to cancer. Even though it sucks and is hard, sometimes the journey is the best part of the destination. Below is a synopsis of the book. I hope you enjoy it!

The Last Breath Teaser 5

The Last Breath:

Loss is not foreign to Julia Barnett. To the outside world she is the epitome of the perfect mom. That is, until the doors of her impeccable life are closed and reality hits her square in the face. Once the leading lady in her own epic love story, she can only look back at what used to be. With an absent husband, an intrusive father, a troubled child, and an ex-fiancé that is still tied to her life, it’s no wonder Julia is grasping for air in her chaotic world.

The bruises that Julia lives with are invisible to those closest to her. She lost so much early in life, more than most could survive. Now, she grapples with resentment towards her husband because of all the empty promises he’s made. In the midst of this turmoil, test results reveal an illness she is not sure she will survive.

For Julia, it is not her life that may be cut short that consumes her, but how her family will endure without her there. As everyone rallies around Julia while she fights like hell to live, she learns that family, along with love, comes in many shapes and sizes. It is her family that gives her the strength to fight the biggest battle of her life; one she doesn’t want to lose.
